Presenter: H. Flechtner

Prof. Hans-Henning Flechtner MD, PhD is professor/chair for child and adolescent psychiatry and director of the university clinic for child and adolescent psychiatry at the Medical Faculty of the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg. He studied philosophy and medicine at the Universities of Giessen, Heidelberg, and Glasgow (Scotland). He started his career in internal medicine and worked for almost 7 years in the department of medical oncology at Heidelberg University and then moved to the field of child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Cologne. After receiving the board certificate as a specialist for child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy he further qualified in psychosomatic medicine. Until he moved to Magdeburg in 2006, he held the position as vice director at the clinic for child and adolescent psychiatry at Cologne University. In his research he focussed on quality of life assessment in oncology and coordinated the quality of life studies within the German Hodgkin Study Group and the EORTC Lymphoma Group since 1993. Later he adapted the modular approach of quality of life assessment in adult medicine to child and adolescent psychiatry and developed a multi informant quality of life inventory for use in child psychiatric patients. Further research areas include psychopathology, eating and hyperactivity disorders and very recently the quality of life of children (and families) who have a parent with cancer. In Magdeburg he newly established collaboration with the neurosciences in order to employ modern imaging techniques mainly in patients with attention deficit disorders.
